UbyKate, a Sydney-based jewellery studio, is pushing further into personalised design work, offering bespoke consultations both in its Sydney workshop and through a growing schedule of face-to-face meetings with clients across Australia.
A focus on personal stories
The studio’s bespoke service centres on transforming clients’ existing jewellery, inherited gemstones and original design concepts into custom-made pieces. Rather than working from fixed collections, UbyKate’s approach begins with a one-on-one consultation where clients share the personal histories behind their jewellery and discuss what they want a new piece to represent.
The process involves collaborative sketching, gemstone selection and the redesign of existing treasured items. Each commission is handled individually, with no two designs repeated.
Reworking heirlooms into contemporary pieces
One of the studio’s recent projects involved reworking a client’s collection of sentimental jewellery into a single contemporary ring. The piece was handcrafted using reclaimed family gold and gemstones sourced from the client’s own collection, with each element chosen to honour a loved one while producing something intended for everyday wear.
The studio describes this type of work as among its core offerings, with projects ranging from reimagined heirlooms and sentimental gemstone redesigns through to entirely new creations built from scratch.
National travel programme
Founder Kate Sutton continues to travel throughout Australia to meet with clients in person, extending the studio’s reach beyond its permanent Sydney base. The programme is designed to bring the consultation experience directly to clients who may not be able to visit the Sydney workshop.
UbyKate is actively seeking input from its client base on where to schedule future visits, asking customers to nominate their city, town or region as a potential destination for bespoke consultations later this year.
Clients based in Sydney can book an in-person session at the studio, while virtual consultations remain available for those unable to attend in person.
