Newcastle (the Australian one) bar and restaurant, Bartholomew’s, is set to stage an immersive entertainment event in support of the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation on Friday, 4 September 2026.
Dubbed “The Ball,” the event will transform the King Street venue into a walk-through performance space, doing away with a traditional stage setup in favour of roaming performers, live headline acts and interactive installations spread across the venue.
Tickets are priced at $290 per person, with an additional $7 service fee, and include a five-hour food and beverage package featuring drinks and roaming canapes.
Format breaks from traditional fundraiser model
Unlike conventional charity gala events, The Ball is built around the concept of immersive theatre, where the boundary between audience and performer is deliberately removed.
Attendees will not be seated in front of a stage. Instead, entertainment will be woven throughout the venue, with performers roaming through the crowd and installations tucked into different areas of the space.
Organisers have described the format as one where guests “won’t just watch the show” but will “become part of it,” with hidden installations and what the venue is calling “enchanting coves” placed throughout Bartholomew’s.
Each guest will receive a map upon arrival to help navigate the experience, though the venue has suggested that getting lost is part of the appeal.
Proceeds to support Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation
The event is being staged as a fundraiser for the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation, a charity that supports breast cancer patients and their families across the Hunter region of New South Wales.
The foundation is the nominated beneficiary for the evening, with the event positioned as a way to combine entertainment with charitable giving.
Details on how funds raised will be allocated to the foundation have not yet been disclosed.
Venue and logistics
The Ball will run from 6:30pm to 11:59pm at Bartholomew’s, located at 145 King Street, Newcastle NSW 2300.
The venue operates as a bar, restaurant and function space, and regularly hosts events and private functions.
Organisers have indicated that capacity for the event is limited, though a specific number of available tickets has not been published.
Headline acts yet to be revealed
While the event listing promises headline acts and a lineup of performers, specific names have not yet been announced.
The venue has hinted that the talent involved will be recognisable, stating that attendees “will know their names,” but a formal lineup reveal appears to be pending.
The decision to withhold performer names ahead of the event appears to be a deliberate part of the immersive concept, which leans into the idea of surprise and discovery on the night.
Tickets available now
General admission tickets can be purchased through the Bartholomew’s website. The $290 ticket price covers entry and the full five-hour food and beverage package.
Those looking for further details or to secure a spot can visit the venue’s events page or book online.
The venue can also be contacted directly on 02 4023 8443.
